INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/48424 Most agricultural systems in Indonesia are small-scale farming systems that depend heavily on ecosystem services to ensure the production productivity and harvest success. One of the ecosystem services which directly related the production system and economic profit is pollination. West Java is one of the agricultural centers in Indonesia, which have pollination dependent process on local and exotic horticultural product. Among these exotic products, zucchini is one of the seasonal vegetables that has been actively cultivated because it has a short cultivation period with a growing market. Unlike local agricultural products, exotic agricultural products may require time to produce interactions with local pollinators. Because of that, this research is tend to obtain information that is related to the role of wild pollinators with zucchini productivity. In this research, the pollination treatment is divided into 3 that are open (O), closed (C), and human (H). The observation parameters are diversity, frequency, and duration of wild pollinator zucchini flower. The pollination process that has been done could be observed based on (1) fruit quality determined from measurements of mass, length, middle circumference, and sugar content (TSS) of zucchini fruit from each treatment; (2) pollination efficiency which is obtained from zucchini fruit which has reach market standard with total flowers observed ratio using percentage; (3) estimated economic value of insect pollination services. The results showed the level of visits from 06:33-10:33. The average of insect’s frequency visits were 6 times for each female flower and 2,33 times for each male flower. The average visit duration was 345 seconds for each female flower and 62,083 seconds for each male flower. Based on this observation, we know that there are four types of natural zucchini pollinating insects, namely Apis sp., Tetragonula sp., Syrphidae, and Sp1. The results showed that pollination affects the quality of the fruit produced (p< 0,05), but does not affect the sugar content (TSS) of zucchini fruit (p> 0,05). The efficiency of insect pollination from each treatment is 46% for open pollination treatment (O) and humans (H) and 0% for closed pollination treatment (C), so that zucchini dependence on pollination is 46% and is included in the high dependency category (40%?X<90%). The estimated economic value of insect pollination services is IDR 72,324.59 while the estimated economic value of hand pollination services by humans is IDR 85,611.78. Therefore, hopefully this research can provide an overview of the importance of pollinating the quality of zucchini fruit produced and provides an understanding that insect pollination provides high economic value. text |
