High concentration of organic matter as Trihalometan precursor may lead to the increase of trihalomethan potential (THM) formulation as a result from desinfection by product. There is a need to raise awareness of THM as it can seriously damage human health. In Indonesia, the measurement of organic compounds as precusor of trihalomethan has not been done.. Therefore, this research will look into the approach to measure organic compound through literature review to show the correlation of BOD and COD towards organic compound that has been used in previous studies to show organic compounds as precursor such as TOC, UV254, UV355, DOC, and SUVA. The removal of these organic compounds in IPA Dago Pakar has not been done appropriately. Thus, the improvement method of removing organic compounds is needed at IPA Dago Pakar. The method recommended by this reaserched is the modification of the coagulation and flocculation units (enhanced coagulation). Enhanced coagulation planning consists of 2 stages. The first stage include establishing removal efficiency target based on TOC concentration and alkalinity. The second stage is the target setting of the pH level based on alkalinity and the establishment of the type and dose of coagulant which will be done by journal analysis. In addition, the modification of the existing coagulation and flocculation units will be analyzed by changing the velocity gradient. text |
