High market demand does not make the carp cultivation sector apart from problems. The problem that often arises is the quality of feed that affects the production of biomass and the environment. BSF feed is one alternative feed that can be selected as a feed replacement. High protein content, relatively affordable prices, and minimal impact on the environment make BSF feed a quality alternative feed. The protein content of BSF feed is 37% with fat content ranging from 5%, making BSF feed favored. The use of BSF feed as an alternative feed makes the conditions of the growing environment of cultivation change due to the factor of feed which has different content from commercial feed. Changes in the environment can affect fish productivity, activity, and metabolism. Some parameters that must be considered are aquaculture wastewater that comes from the feed that is not consumed and residues such as feces. Both of these substrates, if left unreacted, will react with water and air, then they will turn into toxic pollutant compounds that can interfere with fish growth and can even cause death. One of the efforts to overcome them is by utilizing the waste into nutrients that can be absorbed by plants. This system is called aquaponic with plants as its biofilter agent. Therefore this study aims to determine the effect of biofilter application on aquaponic systems on water quality and growth of carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) seeds by feeding Black Soldier Fly (BSF) paste. The treatment in this study included control, biofilter with chicory and biofilter with curly lettuce. The result is, the highest growth rate of fish weight is treatment using curly lettuce biofilter that is equal to 0.64 grams per week. The best water quality with the lowest ammonia concentration is the use of biofilter curly lettuce at 1,0049 ppm, the best water quality with the lowest nitrite concentration is curly lettuce with nitrite concentration of 0,0040 ppm, and the quality of water with the best nitrate concentration is chicory with nitrate concentration amounting to 39,891 ppm. The results showed that the use of biofilter using curly lettuce and chicory affected the growth of carp seeds and water quality. text
