Steenis) leaves as combination has been proven for its antihipertention activity but there is no
information related to its safety for pregnant woman yet. This experiment was done to evaluate
teratogenic effect of water extract of tempuyung and madeira vine leaves in combination at dosage
100 mg/kgBW, 400 mg/kg BW, and 1000 mg/kg BW for Wistar rat. Extract was made as suspension in
Na-CMC 0,5% and given orally to pregnant rat on gestation day 6-15 as much as 1 mL/100 gram BW.
Pregnant rat sacrificed at gestation day 20. All parameters related to fetus included amount of fetus,
fetus weight, skeletal and organ condition were evaluated. Abnormal skeletal and organ percentage
for each dosage group was compared to normal group and analyzed with One Way Annova method.
There was no significant difference of both average amount and weight of fetus from all dosage groups
compared to control group (p>0,05). There was no skeletal dan organ abnormality found in all groups
so that water extract of tempuyung and binahong leaves in combination at dosage 100 mg/kgBW, 400
mg/kg BW, and 1000 mg/kg BW showed no teratogenic effect but contraindicated for pregnant
women and who is planning for having baby due to founding of undeveloped fetus
