Description
Summary:Background and purposes: Ficus genus is one of the plants that widely used as a natural source of antioxidant. Diversity of this plant has an attraction to compare antioxidant activities of selected Ficus plants. The puposes of this study were to determine antioxidant activities of leaves extracts from four species of Ficus i.e Ficus adenosperma, Ficus callosa, Ficus nekbudu and Ficus virens glabella using DPPH method, determine total phenolic and flavonoid content and analyze the correlation between total phenolic, flavonoid content with AAI DPPH and also write the review article about the chemical content and pharmacological activities of Ficus genus. Methods: Extraction was conducted by reflux using increasing polarity solvents. Determination of antioxidant activity by DPPH method, total phenolic and total flavonoid content were carried out by UV-vis spectrophotometry. Correlation of total phenolic and flavonoid content with AAI DPPH were analyzed using Pearson’s method. Article review was conducted by collecting and analyzing literatures. Results: The highest antioxidant activity by DPPH method was shown by ethyl acetate leaves extract of F. adenosperma with AAI 20,521. The highest total phenolic content was presented by ethanol leaves extract of F. virens glabella (18.049 g GAE/100 g) and the highest total flavonoid content was exposed by ethyl acetate leaves extract of F. nekbudu (26.829 g QE/100 g). Total phenolic content of F. virens glabella leaves extract had significantly positive correlation with AAI DPPH. In peparing the review article, 50 literatures were collected and analyzed Conclusions: All leaves extracts of F. adenosperma had strong to very strong antioxidant activities. Total phenolic content of F. virens glabella contributed in antioxidant activities by DPPH method. Ficus genus has many chemical compounds and pharmacological activities.
