Summary: | Pengotan Village is one of the traditional villages in Bali. The village has Baris Gede Dance that is consisted of Baris Jangkang, Baris Jojor, Baris Dadap, Baris Presi, Baris Bajra, Baris Prancak, Baris Blongsong, and Baris Buntal Dance. This dance set is then closed with a Rejang Dance that is danced by women. The Baris Gede Dance tells how the ancestors of Pengotan village traveled from Java to Bali to spread Hinduism before finally settling in their current location. Moreover, Baris Gede Dance tells about the process of maturity and life cycle. Not many people know about this dance or its value. In fact, the dancers themselves do not necessarily understand the dance. It would be unfortunate if the value of the Baris Gede Dance were to fade because no one understood the story the dance tells. The dance carries values that are still relevant to today’s youth. One of the characteristics of teenagers today is their passion for watching. Animation is one of the most popular genres among teenagers. Aside from being a source of entertainment, animation can be an effective medium for conveying messages without being too preachy. Recently the 360° video format has become popular. It utilizes a spherical space to allow viewers to enter the world in the video. This results in higher engagement for the watchers and they will feel more involved and thus, care more about the message that is conveyed by the video. This provides a new possibility to tell the story of Baris Gede Dance. This research aims to increase awareness about Baris Gede Dance by adapting the dance into 360° animation to make it more attractive for early teens. The research uses qualitative research methods and the data collection is done through various literature studies, field observations, and interviews. The results of the data retrieval are then analyzed and used as a reference to help make the design decisions of the 360° animation. |
