Description
Summary:Free radicals are reactive oxygen compounds, which have unpaired electrons in their outer orbits. Therefore, they tend to be very reactive. Compounds that can prevent these effects are antioxidants. Antioxidants can be obtained from various plants, one of them is kirinyuh (Austroeupatorium inulifolium). This study aims to test the antioxidant activities of leaves, flowers, and stem extracts of kirinyuh using DPPH and FRAP methods, determine total phenolic content (TPC) and total flavonoid content (TFC), analyze the correlation between TPC, TFC with AAI DPPH and FRAP, and correlation between two antioxidant testing methods. Extraction was performed by reflux using n-hexane, ethyl acetate and ethanol. Determination of TPC, TFC, AAI DPPH and FRAP by UV-visible spectrophotometry. The correlation between TPC and TFC with AAI DPPH and FRAP, also correlation between two methods were carried out by Pearson’s method. The ethanol leaves extract had the highest TPC (11.97 g GAE /100 g) and TFC (13.11 g GAE / 100 g). AAI DPPH in the range of 0.40 - 12.66, while FRAP 1,91-14,96. TPC of kirinyuh flowers extract had significantly positive correlation with AAI DPPH and FRAP. AAI DPPH and FRAP of flowers and stem extracts of kirinyuh gave significantly positive correlation. The ethyl acetate and ethanol extracts of leaves, flowers and stem of kirinyuh were categorized as very strong antioxidant by DPPH. TPC of flower extract of kirinyuh contributed to its antioxidant activity by DPPH and FRAP. Antioxidant activities of flowers and stem extracts of kirinyuh showed linear results by DPPH and FRAP methods.
