Description
Summary:The Trans Sumatra Road is one of the main routes that are always crossed by travellers every year. According to data from PT. ASDP Indonesia Ferry, Ira Pustita (2019) Revealed that on D-7 to D-1 of Lebaran Idul Fitri in 2018, There were more than 800 thousand travellers passing through this area. The high number of vehicles crossing this area and the long distance that travellers will take to reach their home, raised problems that must be solved, such as high rates of accidents and crime around this area. This research responded to the problem that is happening, by designing a motel in the Trans Sumatra Road according to the habits and behaviour of the travellers. This study used a qualitative approach by interviewing travellers and conducting direct observations by using a private car through the trans Sumatra Road with travellers. After conducting surveys researcher concluded that the provision of accommodations in accordance with the needs of travellers can reduce the impact of crime and accident problems in the area. Considering the number and condition of available accommodation facilities, traveller’s accommodation needs require special design, different from accommodation facilities in general. This design views from the side of the user who is in a state of long-distance travel and the characteristics of the Sumatran migrants who have their own uniqueness compared to Javanese society in general. The payment system needs to consider the situation of visitors, because only need a place to rest for a short time. As well as additional facilities that need to be applied to support the activities of visitors and increase the number of visitors who want to rest in the accommodation facilities provided, such as car workshop, mushola, and restaurant. In the design of applying the theme of nostalgia in providing an atmosphere that can make visitors feel warm and familiar with the room they occupy.
