Description
Summary:Pedestrian accident ranks second in Bandung and crossing activity is risky for pedestrians. The government has implemented standards for crossing facility infrastructure to improve public safety, as an example Pelican Crossing which has been integrated with traffic sign system. But in some cases it is less effective regardless due to the limitation on certain standards and one of the causes in pedestrian accidents is human behavior itself. This research is focused to manipulate the user behavior through products and systems design in the context of 'pre-event' or accident prevention. Mixed research method was carried out qualitatively through observation on Jalan Pahlawan, Bandung as a case study and then compared with quantitative data of related traffic standards. The results show some facility anomalies and crossing behavior caused by the unproper crossing procedures and the function of crossing facilities that are less user friendly. The findings are used as main material and reference for further Pelican Crossing design development with smart and intuitive features as an alternative to more flexible and user-friendly crossing solutions.
