| Summary: | An Alzheimer’s patient will usually have memory problems that will cause them to be unable to remember things that they usually have no problems with. As a result it can lead to frustration and behavioral problems in patients. Usually patients will receive help from their caregiver, but their caregiver won’t always be available to accompany them. Therefore, a method is needed to help distract Alzheimer’s patients in order to prevent behavioral problems. This study is done through interviewing caregivers and observing the day to day life of a number of Alzheimer’s patients aged 65 and up who lives with their family. The result shows that a majority of behavioral problems are caused by the patient’s anxiety and unease. Therefore, the product will be targeted towards calming the patients. This sensory stimulation blanket is designed to distract the patient’s attention and soothe them using deep pressure stimulation. The blanket has a surface with various textures that will provide tactile stimulation and also a padding structure and massaging machine that will provide deep pressure stimulation. |
