Summary:<b>Abstrak :</b><p align="justify">For the last several years, a number of multimedia services are emerging, mainly those which based on multicast (point to multi-point) platform. A part of ATM services that has enormous potency to support those requirements is Available Bit Rate (ABR). A guarantee for delivering minimum cell rate (MCR) and capability in adapting various network's conditions are the interesting features that ABR has. <p align="justify"> <br /> Traffic management of point to multi-point connection is really complex, cause it needs to serve more than one-end-points (destination terminals) and also a bottleneck-problem along path of point to multi-point connection. Flow control takes an important role in delivering better network performance, which is done by closed loop feedback mechanism. One of the most dominant aspects in influencing flow control mechanism is bandwidth allocation algorithm, which is known as switch algorithm. <p align="justify"> <br /> This thesis focus on researching the impact of bandwidth allocation algorithm (switch algorithm) toward performance of point to multi-point flow control mechanism. Various simulation scenarios that represent several conditions will be tested. Hopefully, the result of research can be used as guideline for network designer to design point to multi-point ABR service in ATM network, particularly the aspect on determining switch algorithm. <p align="justify"> <br /> The results of research shown that aspects of choosing switch algorithm and consolidation algorithm take important roles for point to multipoint communication. An appropriate chose of those will give better performance, particularly in aspects of link utilization, throughput, length & transient response queuing. Those aspects above will much more- impot taut corresponding to the cost of telecommunication that should be paid which depends on the following aspects : bandwidth, distance of link, and duration of connection. <br /> <br />
