Summary: | The development of technology has diminished distance in interaction by enabling people to communicate through the internet without the need to physical interaction. It has characterized the world now with asymmetric information, economic risks, and social uncertainty that may be arisen in unpredictable times. The interaction mediated by technology is commonly involved trust in zero-acquaintance. Dilemmatic and conflictual conditions may arise in interaction since they need to expose or share valuable assets or possession to strangers that they never met.
Drama theory provides a powerful framework for understanding role of emotion in changing characters’ decision in pre-communication that complements game theory to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. Dilemma analysis as essential feature of drama theory provides an understanding to dilemma generated in interaction by introducing option board to identify positions, options, and doubts. However, the conflict resolution may be derailed in many ways that called as pathologies. Yet, the existing drama theory does not provide a structure to identify pathologies. This paper attempts to develop the theory by identifying and structuring the pathologies in dramatic episode and suggest new pathologies that may arise in online trading.
This research introduces Abductive Drama Theory Analysis (ADTA) to structuring and elaborating pathologies in interactions. This study proposed structure and generic table of pathologies in facing dilemma phase and introduced two new pathologies in collaboration phase of online interaction. This research also provides case analysis to illustrate application of dilemma analysis and pathologies in peer-to-peer accommodation.
Keywords: collaboration analysis, pathologies of interaction, drama theory, conflict resolution. |
