MONODISPERSE SILICA MICROSPHERE SYNTHESIS WITH CACO3 MICROPARTICLE ASSIST AS TEMPLATE

Monodisperse silica materials have widely used in various fields, such as drug delivery, nucleic acid adsorption, and HPLC column materials. One of methods to synthesis monodisperse silica is using CaCO3 microparticles as template. Then, the CaCO3 template can dissolved with an acid to get a porous...

One of methods to synthesis monodisperse silica is using CaCO3 microparticles as template. Then, the CaCO3 template can dissolved with an acid to get a porous silica. The synthesis of CaCO3 microparticles was carried out by mixing 0.33 M CaCl2 and 0.33 M Na2CO3 with volume ratio 1:1. In this research, tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and 3- aminopropyl triethoxysilanes (APTES) were absorbed into CaCO3 microparticles, and then hydrolyzed using 0.1 M ammonia. Furthermore, the obtained solid was reacted with 0.1 M HCl to dissolve all of CaCO3. CaCO3 microparticles and TEOS- based monodisperse silica were analyzed using FTIR and SEM. FTIR spectra of CaCO3 microparticles have peak at wavenumber number 712 cm-1, 873 cm-1 and 1430 cm-1 indicates the microparticles have calcite form. This conclusion is supported by SEM images, that showed valerite-calcite transition. FTIR spectra from TEOS-based monodisperse silica have peak at wavelength number ~ 2341 cm- 1 and some peaks due to incomplete hydrolysis process. SEM images showed cubes form particles. This result misses monodisperse silica target form that is sphere, so it needs more methods modification to apply. text
