Competitiveness of producers in both national and international markets, the efficiency of internal distribution, and more generally, cohesion and integrity of the national economy are strongly influenced by the performance of the port sector. The transport system using sea transportation mode that is well and efficiently managed is a very important factor for an archipelagic country like Indonesia in enhancing economic competitiveness and maintain the territorial integrity of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia. PT Perahu Nusantara is a state-owned company that provide ferry transportation service in the maritime industry. The company manages 35 ferries ports in 29 branch operations and has 135 units of ro-ro ships. To maintain the operation of all ro-ro ships units well, each branch office of the company obligates to obey the BKI regulation regarding minimum spare-parts inventory onboard. Therefore, the availability of spare-parts onboard is considered important to smoothen the daily operation. Occasionally in time of urgency, the branch office ordered and bought the spare-parts by themselves from tender which is not listed in the head office tender due to long process procurement time. Meanwhile, the company has difficulty to accurately tracking and monitoring spare-parts inventory movement activity on the vessel due to manual administrative work and disordered storeroom layout on the vessel. Thus, the business problems can be solved by improving company’s spare-parts inventory management system. The methodology used in this research is a qualitative method. The qualitative research is an approach to explore and understand the meaning of individuals or groups ascribe to a social or human problem. This research conducts in-depth interview as the research methodology which involved in the spare-parts inventory management system. The aim of this research is focused on designing new integrated system to improve spare-parts inventory management system performance. The design of proposed spare-parts inventory management system is done by using System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) approach. Hence, the business solutions which conducted from SDLC approach to improve efficiency of spare-parts inventory management are building mobile application that integrated with barcode inventory tracking system, create a website as an information platform to manage all of spare-parts supply chain activities, and design a new layout for spare-parts inventory in the storeroom. By implementing the proposed inventory management system, it supposed to help the company to save time, cost, and minimize errors. text |
