Summary: | Feminism is a global movement that aims to achieve women's rights & liberation in different ways. Egypt and Indonesia are historically similar in the term of feminism, therefore, they have similar identification of men and women that have been linked to a fluctuating idea of doing gender within the context of socio-cultural and religion. The women’s movement in both countries have influenced by two elements; first, the character of the women’s organizations, whether subsidiaries of existing male organizations, fully independent or semi-autonomous, the important issues rising within the movements, as well as the strategies to deal with them; and second, the influential factor of government intervention on the women’s movement which the women representation in all the fields.
Art is a very eloquent method was used to present the feminist movement in different societies and decades. Therefore, the feminist art movements were emerged as a result of the political participation of the female activist artists in the feminist movement by making written and visual work. Feminist artists used performance art as the main medium to question the patriarchal dominance issue in art and their personal life.
Inspiring by the feminist art movement within its connection with my personal experience as a woman raised in Muslim countries and moved to Indonesia, the thesis explores the understanding of performance art history in relation to the feminist

perspective in order to create my final art project "Evil Circle". Evil Circle questions the gender issue concerning identity and religion. Therefore, I use the intersectionality theoretical framework to analyze how a contemporary feminist artist is exploring the political potential gender issue within performance work. |
