Description
Summary:EOR (Enchanced Oil Recovery) is a method to increase oil recovery. In this experiment, EOR via chemical injection method was developed by using polymer to increase the viscosity of water. Biopolymer used for this was cassava starch which was crosslinked using polyethylene glycol (PEG) was synthesized. For this purpose, starch was isolated from cassava with yield and crystallinity of 11,8 % and 29,5 % respectively. PEG-OH with an average molecular weight of 200 g/mol was chemically modified through esterification with citraconic anhydride to form PEG-COOH. The resulting PEG-COOH was characterized using FTIR (Fourier Transform Infared), 1H-NMR (Nuclear Magnetik Resonance) and TLC (Thin-Layer Chromatography). The FTIR spectrum of PEG-COOH showed a vibration peak of a wave number of 1734,6 cm-1 originating from the carbonyl group. Futhermore, the intensity of OH vibration at 3507,6 cm-1 decreased, indicating that PEG was successfully modified. Subsequently, starch was modified through crosslinking reaction with PEG-COOH. The resulting products were characterized using FTIR, XRD (X-Ray Diffraction), SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), and viscosity measurements. From FTIR spectrum of crosslinked starch, a sharp peak at wave numbers 1679.4 cm-1 was observed which indicated the presence of carbonyl groups in crosslinked starch. X- ray difractogram of crosslinked starch showed new peaks were obtained at 2? of 17,32; 24,26; 26,26; 35,16; 43,14 and 51,00 o with 74,2% crystalinity. Crosslinked starch were then dissolved in water to get 1000–30.000 ppm polymer solution. The viscosity values of the solution at 25–80 ? were 0,31–5,01 cP. The viscosity data showed that the higher the temperature, the lower the viscosity. In addition, the higher the polymer concentration, the higher the viscous flow activation energy.
