DESIGN OF SYSTEM-ON-CHIP FOR PAM-4 BASED VISIBLE LIGHT COMMUNICATION

Visible Light Communication or VLC is one of the breakthroughs in the world of communication to address the frequency limitations that are used in radio frequency based communication. As for several modulations, one of the most common ones is On-Off Keying (OOK). The PAM (Pulse Amplitude Modulati...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/49264 Visible Light Communication or VLC is one of the breakthroughs in the world of communication to address the frequency limitations that are used in radio frequency based communication. As for several modulations, one of the most common ones is On-Off Keying (OOK). The PAM (Pulse Amplitude Modulation) is a modulation which is also an advanced version of OOK. The research on this has been done a lot but limited to simulations, of course the simulation needs to be proven by conducting experiments. The purpose of this research is to design, simulate, implement PLC-4 based VLC on FPGA and analyze performance in terms of BER and Data rate. In addition to PAM-4 in this study additional modules were added in the form of Pulse shaping and Matched filter as a solution to reduce Inter Symbol Interference. The results of this study are that PAM-4 has worked with Pulse shaping and Matched filter. The input that is sent is the same as that received, both through modelsim simulation and SoC verification. A data transmission simulation of 10,000 byte has also been carried out and there are no errors. Based on the simulation results, the resulting bitrate is 8 bits / 12 clock or 0.6 bit / clock. The FPGA clock is mounted 5 ns to 0.6 bits / 5 ns or 1.2 Megabits / second. PAM-4 is written in Verilog and verified with SoC using testbench in the form of C language. text
