Summary:The tourism development on Lake Toba which is getting higher raises anxiety about the impact which will be generated to the surrounding environment. Though Lake Toba is being cultivated by government to be registered in the UNESCO Global Geopark (UGG). This has become a concern government so that this project is intended to be a tourism pioneer that refers to the principles of ecotourism. The design area is 50,000 m2 with a KDB of 12% so that the area construction of only 6,000 m2. This project consists of 30 villa units, supporting facilities, facilities recreation, and cultural facilities. This project is designed by raising three main issues, namely issues sustainability, contours, and ambience. These three issues are based on analysis that has been carried out regarding the site, users, and activities that will take place. Issue sustainability is responded to by considering the carbon emissions produced by building. So that the material chosen is the material that is available around the site, usage natural lighting and ventilation, as well as water conservation provision. As a building effort the atmosphere / ambience of the resort, the mass form of the villa units is designed to adopt the form of a traditional Batak house Karo, whose name is Siwaluh Jabu. The results of designing a resort with the ecotourism concept are expected able to contribute to environmental preservation and improvement of community welfare around along with the increasing number of visitors who come.
