The 2'-hydroxychalcone derivative compounds are known to be the precursors for the synthesis of flavone compounds. The 2'-hydroxychalcone derivative has been synthesized in the presence of a base through the Claisen-Schimdt (aldol condensation) condensation reaction between 2'-hydroxyacetophenone and each of the four benzaldehyde derivatives (o-hydroxyvanillin, salicylaldehyde, p-anisaldehyde, and benzaldehyde) in an ionic liquid medium 1-dodecyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([DDMIm]Br) using microwave irradiation method to obtain a shorter reaction time and better results. The reaction was carried out for 5 to 15 minutes and produced products with chemical yields within the range of 33.97% to 83.42%. The four products were characterized using 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The analysis of the effect of different substituents of benzaldehyde derivatives on reaction time as well as the effect of ionic liquid [DDMIm]Br on the cyclization energy of 2'-hydroxychalcones were carried out by computational studies using the Density Functional Theory (DFT) method. text
