Description
Summary:Abstrak :

Water content is one of quality parameters which controls the rank of coal. Coal from Tambang Air Laya has various ranks from lignite to semi-antrasite. Water content of the range of ranks varies significantly from lignite that has 34.98% natural water content to semi-antrasite with 1.51% natural water content. The water content is proportional to coal porosity which decreases from 37.50% in lignite to 7.89% in semiantrasite. With simple modeling in laboratory, the dielectric properties of various ranks of coal are measured using georadar equipment with antennae frequency of 1 GHz. The results of measurement and data processing indicate that radar wave velocity increases with the increase of the rank of coal that are 122.27-132.98 mm/ns in lignite and 166.67-168.54 mm/ns in semi-antrasite. On the other hand, relative dielectric constant decreases with the increase of the rank of coal that are 5.09-6.02 in lignite and 3.17-3.24 in semiantrasite. The research concludes that dielectric property is one of good alternative control for the rank of coal as well as natural water content.
