Description
Summary:Social entrepreneurs are business people who combine the basic concepts of business or trade to seek profit with the philanthropic aim to do something good for society. According to this, a business activity can maximize its income in line with the benefits provided to the community. In other words, social entrepreneurs share parts of their profit to fund the existing or future social program for the greater good. Business development activities through social entrepreneurship are currently becoming a trend, especially among youths or young entrepreneurs who improvise a lot in the context of developing a personal business, as they benefit themselves and the social life of the surrounding community. These social entrepreneurs are quick to adapt their business using the latest information and technology development. Given the sufficient amount of capital, management skills, and technological know-how, anybody can successfully become an entrepreneur, and some of them even succeed in gaining extraordinary benefits by involving the role of reciprocal relationships with the surrounding community. This study will explore the motivation of those emerging social entrepreneurs in Desa Sukajadi, Ciamis, whose social ventures have been stimulated further by Sakola Motekar, a community-based learning and training initiative led by local activists. The findings show that social entrepreneurship motivation is driven by the need to render positive societal impact as a means toward self-actualization within collectivistic setting.
