The Indonesian government has issued a policy for the use of bioethanol, but its implementation is constrained by a lack of supply and a high price. There is another alternative energy, namely methanol, which can be produced from various raw materials such as natural gas and coal so that it can be produced with a large capacity and at a lower price. This study examines the effect of adding methanol and ethanol ranging from 1-85% -v/v to gasoline as well as the use of a mixture of methanol and ethanol (as a co-solvent) in a ratio of 3:1 until the total alcohol mixture reaches 20%-v/v on parameters of volatility and water tolerance. From the results of the research, it is known that the addition of methanol or ethanol to gasoline forms a mixture that is not ideal, where the addition of low concentrations will increase the vapor pressure and decrease the distillation temperature from the initial base of the mixture. The curve of the methanol-gasoline mixture shows a more significant change than the ethanol-gasoline mixture. At the same volume percentage of the fuel mixture, the resulting curve of the methanolethanol- gasoline mixture is between the methanol-gasoline and ethanol-gasoline curves but is closer to the methanol-gasoline curve. For water tolerance parameters, the ethanol-gasoline curve is higher than that of methanol-gasoline. Water tolerance of alcohol-gasoline fuel mixture increases with increasing% -v/v alcohol and increasing temperature. The addition of 15% -v/v methanol (M15) gave a change in the vapor pressure value of 22 kPa and a change in the T50 distillation temperature of 31oC. The water tolerance value of the M15 at 25oC is 0.4% -v / v water. The use of ethanol as a co-solvent can reduce the vapor pressure by about 2 kPa, increase the T50 distillation temperature around 4oC and increase the ability to tolerate water at 25oC by 0.15% -v / v water. text
