AN APPLICATION OF A MARKOV MODEL: CASE STUDY ON A CERVICAL CANCER

Markov models are often used to model the states of the conditions of a person’s health, in which the transitions between the states from time to time are modeled. A Markov model is used to model the probabilities of the outcomes that might occur. In this thesis, an application of the multi-state Ma...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/49687 Markov models are often used to model the states of the conditions of a person’s health, in which the transitions between the states from time to time are modeled. A Markov model is used to model the probabilities of the outcomes that might occur. In this thesis, an application of the multi-state Markov model, more precisely, a five-state model with monthly transition period, is explained in analyzing the development of a disease. The Markov model is used to model the stages of an advanced cervical cancer based on the GOG240 clinical trial report. The transition probabilities are assumed to be constant over time and then used for the Cost-Effectiveness Analysis (CEA) of two types of interventions given to patients with advanced cervical cancer by looking at the value of the Incremental Cost-Effectiveness Ratio (ICER). The methodology used in this thesis is applied to a secondary data obtained from a clinical trial report. text
