In mechanical systems, structure is crucial and may causes huge loss if fails. To prevent structural failure, structural health monitoring (SHM) is developed to monitor the structure’s integrity. One method of SHM is piezo-resistive method and can be used for CFRP. However, to apply this method the matrix of the CFRP must be removed to expose the carbon. Sanding the matrix is a way to do it, but it may affect the strength of the CFRP. Several studies conclude there is no significant impact on its static tensile strength, but not much research on its fatigue strength. Before the investigation can be conducted, a simple machine that can provide dynamic loading must be developed first. The objectives of this research are to design the mechanical system of the simple dynamic loading machine, design the data acquisition system for the simple dynamic loading machine, and evaluate the design of the mechanical system using finite element analysis. There are three methodologies used to conduct this research, which are literature review, design process, and finite element analysis. The design of the mechanical system uses slider crank mechanism generate the alternating force. The prime mover of the system is an electric motor. The force is then measured by the load cell attached to the frame of the machine. The signal of the load cell then processed using HX711, Arduino UNO, and MATLAB, then displayed on computer monitor. The overall static safety factor for the machine is 1.2 and its expected fatigue life is 108 cycles. text
