Methyl orange has toxic and irritant properties. The presence of methyl orange in the aquatic environment can cause pollution because it can increase the COD value. Therefore, it is necessary to remove the dye in water. One of the methods that can be done to remove dye in water is adsorption. In this study, methyl orange adsorption was carried out with pectin isolated from banana peels modified with ethylenediamine. From the results of isolation, pectin was obtained with a yield of 6%. Then, the pectin isolated from banana peels was physically and chemically modified with ethylenediamine. The isolated pectin powder, physical and chemical modification of pectin with ethylenediamine were characterized using FTIR, SEM and Nanoparticle Analyzer. PmF can adsorb methyl orange with optimum conditions of contact time 1 hour, composition pectin : ethylenediamine 1 : 5, pH 9, adsorbent dose 0.025 gram/25 mL of methyl orange solution and initial concentration of methyl orange 400 ppm. The adsorption of methyl orange by PmF followed the Langmuir isotherm model. text
