The 5 canvases potray how the author narrates her own life phases through a fabrication of landscapes as the result of symbolic ‘inventions’ onto a series of compositions. The ‘inventions’ arise from thoughts that have been a constant existence in the author's mind; from mundane observations of the relationship between living things (humans, animals, and plants) and the environment they are in, to questions about possible roles and potentials of landscape as visual elements in expressing human emotion. Realizing that the above topics are still too general, the author relates to her own personal circumstances. In the creative process, the author involves intuition that is strongly influenced by her life experience. This intuition, the author realized, was considerably influenced by the urge that the author ran into when being face with certain landscape objects. The object in this series as a whole does not only represent what is in nature, but also act as a representation of her subjective expressions. The visual characteristics of the landscape in this work are identical to the typology of house architecture and also the natural environment that the author borrowed from photographs in magazines. The process of cutting an image from the page is done to reach certain compositions by a technique called collage. The painting itself is done in photorealistic techniques, with hopes that the visual quality of the work would present a sense of reality in the midst of symbolic landscape fabrication. text |
