Also in unsoaked CBR, soaked CBR, and percent swelling at optimum moisture content which are derived from standard compaction tests. <p align=\"justify\"><br /> The results of the investigation indicate that the percent swelling value of Caruban-Ngawi clay can not be reduced by an increase in compaction efforts or an increase in dry density, ranging from 1.02 to 1.35, because an increase in dry density also produces an increase in percent swelling value, ranging from 4.28% to 5.38%. <br /> The effect of increasing Watukosek silty sand content in the mixtures produces indications as follows: <br /> - A reduction in liquid limit and plastic limit, and an increase in shrinkage limit; <br /> - A reduction in optimum moisture content and increase in maximum dry density in standard compaction tests; <br /> - An increase in unsoaked CBR value, ranging from 9.10% to 15.00%; on soaked CBR the effect is small, ranging from 2.35% to 3.75%, except for 50% silty sand content at which the CBR value is 7.10%, and also the percent swelling is reduced, ranging from 5.30% to 3.26%, and for 50% silty sand content at which the percent swelling is 1.15%. <p align=\"justify\"><br /> The stabilized Caruban expansive soil using 50% silty sand is classified as a clayey sand, sand-silt mixture (SC), based on the USCS system, and the CBR is 7.10% greater than 6%, It can be used as a subgrade (Standard Specification for Highway Construction, Directorate General of Bina Marga, 1972).<p align=\"justify\"><br /> text
