Summary: | Discussions around the effects of colonialism in nations in South East Asia that have been colonized are still minimal, even though the impacts it has are still present in this era, more than 50 years after Indonesia’s independence. A means to educate the public about this issue has become important, considering this era of information, wherein the internet can be used to convey notions that perpetuate post-colonialism. The museum is thus designed as a solution to that issue. The project is located on Jl. Jenderal Achmad Yani and lies 900 meters from the Museum of Asia-Africa conference, a pivotal place in the history of the colonialism of Asian and African nations. The main issues of this project are education, ambience, and universal design. The main goal of this project is to build a museum that acts to educate the public about the history of colonialism.
The main concept of the building is named “House of The Rising Sun”, and it puts an emphasis on spatial experience. Complying with the zero-setback regulation in the area, this museum retains the existing city corridor by means of an arcade. The museum is also designed with a landscraper approach, giving public space to the people in the area, as Naripan has less than 9000 m2 of public space which is the standard. This shape of the mass responds to some features near the site, namely Taman Veteran, Simpang Lima, and two heritage buildings. |
