Toxoplasmosis is not only dangerous during pregnancy but literature studies say there is a correlation between toxoplasmosis and neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and cerebral palsy. This research has been performed to determine toxoplasmosis risk factors in individuals with special needs, and determine the correlation between toxoplasmosis and pathogenesis of neurodevelopmental disorders. Research was conducted using a validated questionnaire, filled in person or online by the parent or guardian of individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders. In addition, previously conducted correlational studies on toxoplasmosis and neurodevelopmental disorders were reviewed. Based on the questionnaire results of 60 individuals, 58% consume undercooked meat, 26% drink unhygienic drinking water supply, 62% used municipal water supply, and 80% were given artificial feeding. Artificial feeding was started at the age of 7.13 months on average, with 1.17 being the coefficient of variance. Only 6 mothers (10%) in the sample group had toxoplasmosis testing before pregnancy. The group with knowledge on toxoplasmosis (63%) has lower odds of undercooked meat (OR 0.71) and unhygienic drinking water (OR 0,72) consumption. Knowledge does not significantly affect usage of artificial nutrition (OR 1.96) and unhygienic municipal water (OR 1.14). Based on the literature review, 14 of 16 research articles state correlation of congenital and latent toxoplasmosis to the occurrence of neurodevelopmental disorders. text |
