Bandung as the capital city of West Java is developing quite rapidly, as seen through the physical aspect, the people, and the activities. Demographic characteristics and globalization draw a big impact on the cultural orientation of the citizen. To deal with this problem, there needs to be a facility in which education of the city’s art and culture could take place, where the citizen could also express and appreciate those forms of art and culture. The facility should also accommodate spaces for the citizen to meet and interact with each other comfortably, in order to create a lively and relevant urban realm. These concerns are sought to be dealt with the design of Bandung Art and Cultural Center. Bandung Art and Cultural Center is located on Jalan Pahlawan No. 70, Cibeunying Kaler, Bandung. This building mainly provides a 600-seated auditorium, a gallery, workshops, classrooms, and studios, as well as other supporting functions. This art and cultural center accommodates both traditional and modern arts and cultures. The design issues on this project are education, expression, interaction, and visual representation. A main concept is deduced from those issues, that is Cultural Synthesis, which is then defined as a process and a mixture. This concept is manifested in the building’s morphology, zoning, spatial organization, circulation design, and landscape. The building is a single mass with an inner court in the middle and green spaces surrounding it, consists of 4 floors with a total area of ±5900 sqm. The essence of Art Deco style is applied to the design as an honor to the image and identity that has been closely associated with the architecture of the city.
