Description
Summary:“Griya Bathik” Lifestyle Center of Batik Nusantara is a fictional project located in the BSD City area that emphasizes on Indonesian batik culture as the main design issue. Assumed to be owned by Badan Ekonomi Kreatif (Bekraf), this project is designed to promote the cultural aspects of urban lifestyle related to the public awareness of various Indonesian batik, as well as to conserve the various style of batik crafted in and around Indonesian Archipelago known as Batik Nusantara. The users of this building are projected to be quite diverse, consist of the public in general and the special groups such as tourists, retail owners, batik craftsmen, curators, employees, and the managers. Envisioned as Bathik House, the project will contribute to the preservation of Indonesia's cultural heritage through a contemporary architectural design by retaining the principles of classical batik of Indonesia. Based on this vision, the concept developed for this project is to incorporate the modern characteristic, yet distinctive batik characters, into the designs of the interiors and the exteriors components of the building, particularly the expression of Batik Kawung on the building facades. The main attraction of this project is the provision of sunken plaza which is located on an elevation about three meters below the ground floor. The plaza suitably used not only for the outdoor fashion show but also as a space for semi-private public gatherings. The building itself is a one-massed structure consists of a tower and its podium. The tower is inspired by the extruded form of Batik Kawung, while the shape of the podium is adjusted to the site. The tower consists of five main floors with two basement floors. Laying-out based on a grid structural module for both the tower and the podium, the difference of the structural grid between them is solved by dilatation technique using cantilever beams on the podium structure. Overall, with the land area around 15,700 m2, this project has met the regulations regarding Building Coverage Ratio of 35%, Green Coverage Ratio of 35%, and Floor Average Ratio of 3.2.
