<b>Abstract :</b><p align=\"justify\">Technological innovation is a process that involves many factors in its development. One of the factors that is significant, particularly in the interaction between technological innovation and economic growth, is institutionalization of technological innovation in which technological innovation becomes formalized and a routine part of industrial production system. <br /> <p align=\"justify\">In this thesis, analysis on the institutionalization of technological innovation was conducted in macro level by taking a case study of the United States, where the institutionalization of technological innovation in the early of 20th century was presumably the main factor in the development of technology and positively impacted the economic growth. <br /> <p align=\"justify\">The analysis in this thesis is based on three questions: (1) Why did the institutionalization of technological innovation in the United States occur? (2) How did the institutionalization take place? and (3) What were the influential factors in the institutionalization process? <br /> <p align=\"justify\">To anwers those questions, the author applies two fundamental theories, which are the theory of system of technological innovation and the theory of institution. Furthermore, in the analysis process, the author employs the historical analysis method for reconstructing historical facts and finding the relationship between revealed factors that encompasses: (1) the establishment of the discipline of technology, (2) the motives of capitalism, (3) the protection of ideas, and (4) the relation between entities.
