One of human’s basic needs is to interact and affiliate with nature and living
organisms such as animals and plants. Minimal interaction with nature gives
positive impacts on human physically and psychologically. This kind of tendency
on human behaviour is called ‘biophilia’. For instance, the urban environment has
‘green open space’, or usually called ‘city park’, as a semi-natural representation
of a forest in purpose to fulfil human’s needs of recreation and refreshment.
Biophilia is implemented with the help of technological nature through various
approaches: biomimicry, bioutilization, and biomorphic; which gives similar
effect as nature does to human’s physical and psychological condition while those
approaches are combined. The biomorphic approach plays an important role in
psychological impact that comes from the aesthetic impression of natural forms.
The imitation of organic shapes and motifs of natural objects is a component key
of biophilic design.
Morpho butterfly is one of the butterfly species that has wing characteristics that
emit iridescent blue created from nanostructures on the wings, without any
pigment on the wings surface. This structure is imitated by a biomorphic approach
to be applied to fashion products with resin material using structural design
techniques. Biomorphic structure of the Morpho butterfly wings is one of the
manifestations of biophilia through the aesthetics presented in functional products. |
