THE ROLE OF POLLINATING INSECTS ON THE QUALITY OF RED BEANS (PHASELOUS VULGARIS) USING BORDER PLANTS AND NON BORDER PLANTS.

Red bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) is a type of bean variety that is widely cultivated by local farmers in West Java. In the fruit production process, these nuts can get assistance from ecosystem services, namely protection from pests by plants and pollination by insects. However, recently there has been...

In the fruit production process, these nuts can get assistance from ecosystem services, namely protection from pests by plants and pollination by insects. However, recently there has been a show that will degrade these ecosystem services as a result of the intensification of agriculture. This condition itself can be overcome in 2 ways, namely increasing protection with insect repellent plants by adding insect pollinators to the agricultural system. In this study, two approaches were carried out, namely by adding edge plants (border plants) and stingless bees (Tetragonula laeviceps) as an effort to increase the productivity of red bean plants. The variables observed in this study were productivity (weight) and the quality of the fruit produced (length and diameter). The results showed that the addition of edge plants had a greater impact on the productivity and quality of the fruit, in search of the presence of additional insect pollinators, although there was an increase in the number and time of insect visitation on the flower of red bean plants. text
