Description
Summary:Kebumen is a regiency located in southern coastal area of Java which has a influential geological site. This geological site has been designated as national geopark by Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (LIPI) since 2018. The geopark site is included in Karangsambung sub district to Karangbolong sub district. It has a history of old Earth plate which is recognized by scientists all around the world. However, the existence of such potential science has not been developed optimally. The existence of geopark site should be able to provide benefits to community, especially from the scientific and economic aspects. There are several issues to be raised in design process of this project, namely environmental issues, ambience, and sequence. Karangsambung Geological Museum is designed as a catalyst to meet the conservation, community development, and economic development according to the Karangsambung-Karangbolong Geopark objectives. The existence of building on Karangsambung land is a major issue in building design, especially in building mass and site plan to suit the context of the site environment. Circulation an exhibition spaces designed dynamically to create ambience and sequence from the history of geological transformation on earth. Outdoor spaces such as park and plazas are maximized ad exhibition spaces as well as public areas for visitor. Building design concepts use the analogy of shapes and geologic historical process in the geopark site. This museum is expected to make public more aware of the existence of geological heritage in the geopark site and participate in maintaining its sustainability.
