The main function of this project are to be a place for collecting, curating, presenting ,and maintaining museum collections and also to provide educational facilities for aeronautical education. This 4.5 hectares area covered museum which belongs to the Indonesian Air Force would be expanded to the east side up to 8.6 hectares by redesign. This project is located in Adisucipto airstrip complex, Kolonel Sugiono St, Banguntapan District, Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta with a land area of 8.6 hectares. This museum has several land potentials, some of which are its location close to the Adisucipto Airport runway and also there are some interesting views from rice fields and rivers. The project design approach was taken from combining land potential analysis with project brief from the project proponent and the museum collection analysis. The design result of this project is a 7000 m2 large hangar building with a building inside the hangar consisting of 3-floor levels. The main concept of this project is “The Flying Hangar” where the aircraft museum doesn’t look like hangars in general since the building looks like an airplane that will be taking off in an airport runway. The final form of the museum is designed using a parametric design approach. Besides, the user experiences are different from general aircraft hangar because there are floating walkways inside the building to see the museum’s collections from various perspectives. text |
