Summary: | Bandung Architecture Museum is an effort of conserving architecture and educating the public about the importance of Kota Bandung’s architecture amidst the world’s development which leads to the disappearance of Bandung’s heritages, in a purpose of teaching architecture with architecture. This project is situated in the center of Pusat Kota Lama Bandung, surrounded by Bandung heritage buildings. The approach used in the process of designing this museum is placemaking, in the hope of making a connection in the general public of Kota Bandung with the museum itself, thus the public will have a sense of belonging to this museum, their culture, and the spaces within. This museum is designed to give out a different respond to each of the issues within its context, the centers of community activities is replicated throughout the museum’s site, however, the museum’s façade expression is made to differ and contrast form its historical context to state that architecture will always be different from time to time, it will always progress in accordance of world’s development. The building’s form is a result of the display concept, circulation within the building is linear, since the exhibition areas is made to follow the history Kota Bandung’s architecture development, this requires the building to have a linear circulation pattern that can depict the historical development timeline, hence, the compressed zig-zag rectangular form which is derived from a straight normal one. To support the placemaking aspect, the building’s site is design to have a high permeability which allows activities that have been before around the site to stay undisturbed; big, open, and flexible spaces is also provided to support the activity needs, it’s aim is to encourage interaction and activities in the spaces within the museum. |
