DESIGN OF COASTAL PROTECTION FROM TSUNAMI IN PALU CITY, CENTRAL SULAWESI
On September 28, 2018, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 Mw struck Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. This event triggered a tsunami that damaged coastal areas along the Palu City Coast. Therefore, this study is based on modelling of reverse/thrust fault failures, deterministically. The generated tsun...

This event triggered a tsunami that damaged coastal areas along the Palu City Coast. Therefore, this study is based on modelling of reverse/thrust fault failures, deterministically. The generated tsunami wave is simulated using Delft3D and delft dashboard. There are four scenarios that has been modelled based on four tectonic fault failures scenarios, named North Sulawesi Megathrust, Makassar Strait North, Makassar Strait Central, and the combination of Makassar Strait North and Central failures, respectively. The model run in three different grid which is connected by process named Nesting in order to minimize both error and computational time. The model results provide the maximum inundation height map along the Palu City Coast. These result is taken to be a height parameter design of the coastal dikes. The Coastal Dikes is designed with regarding to another possible alternatives design which is selected by MCDA and the tsunami-wave force calculated based on Code Standard of ASCE. The Coastal Dikes itsels consist with earthfill and concrete coating block at its top with the hoe and toe protection contained by gabion and spun pile. The model with consist the coastal dikes implied that the area of the inundation is decreased. Moreover, the other aspects of designing the structure was provided in this report, named “Operation & Maintenance”, “Construction Cost”, “Detailed Design”, etc. text |
