SPATIAL PATTERN OF DWELLING IN KAMPUNG KAUMAN MALANG VIEWED FROM ISLAMIC VALUES IN SUSTAINABLE SETTLEMENTS

Spatial pattern of dwelling is closely related to the inhabitant activities. Likewise, the residential is in Kampung Kauman Malang. Settlements location in the city center gives its own influence on its development. It is interesting to study related to the continuity of Kampung Kauman as part existence of Islamic cities in Java in earlier times. This research aims to explore various efforts, patterns and strategies carried out by the community in realizing Islamic values in sustainable settlements into the spatial patterns of their dwellings. Kampung Kauman Malang was chosen because of the identity of the Islamic settlement and is located in the middle of the city which has high growth dynamics. Although many factors influence its development, its existence up to now is one proof of its sustainability. This research is a cultural context research. Based on time, this study is cross-sectional. The research was conducted by mix methods, in which data collection and analysis were carried out qualitatively and quantitatively, but also included in case study research. The results of this study found a variety of efforts, patterns and strategies of the community in its application. This is reflected in community activities, both religious and social activities. Application of social, economic and environmental aspects can be seen through the spatial dwelling and domestic space pattern. The social aspect makes the mosque as the center of community activities. The hijab concept is one of the factors that influence the domestic space arrangement. This can be seen from the separation of parents' and children's bedrooms and the closet position that does not orientated the Qibla. Other findings are the terrace existence, side entrane, and height settings of the room window bordering the alley. The economic aspect is manifested by the existence of a business place in dwelling. Whereas the environmental aspect puts forward the adab of living things, animals and plants as well as efforts to preserve the environment.
