By giving I-131, there might be an exposure from patient’s body to the environment, to prevent the exposure to healthy people, usually patient that undergo the I-131 therapy will be isolated in hospital for a few days until the exposure rate from their body reduced and safe for their environment. Decreasing time of exposure rate might be different for each person since it affected by each person’s metabolic activity and will affect their discharge time and/or treatment time. Confusion and nervousness may appear to the patient and it also affect scheduling for gamma camera for other treatment. To determine the exactly the discharge time of the patient, effective half-life of I-131 become important. Effective half-life of I-131 is determined by measuring exposure rate of body and urine from the patient. Exposure rate of the body of the patient were taken 2 hours after dose administration and every 12 hours on the next day in 3 days using survey meter for 1 minute. Exposure rate of the urine of the patient is used for obtaining the washing out time. The effective half-life given by this method is 14.57 hour and the washing out time is 22.08 hour. From this research, found that the greater dose given to the patient, the faster the effective half life and the washing out time. Males patient also has faster time for effective half-life and washing out than females patient, but if they follow doctor’s advice to drink a lot and eat healthy foods turns out their effective half-life and washing out time became faster. It shows that there is metabolic process effect on the effective half-life of I-131. text
