Description
Summary:Abstact :

VoIP (voice over internet protocol) is a system that delivers voice over internet protocol (IP). This system allows real time converstion between two or more people.

There are two types of VoIP implementations, enterprise scale and carrier scale. Carrier scale implemented on the telecommunication carrier, this system uses normal subscriber\'s telephone set as terminal station.

TELKOM (one of Indonesian telecommunication carrier) has tried this system on 1999. To optimize bandwidth, voice signal at the rate of 64 kbps was compressed to 8 kbps.

The measurement of the speech quality was done by conducting an end to end testing at terminal ports. There are two types of test , subjective test and objective test. In subjective test some peoples are invited to try the system and score the speech quality based on their perception.

Nowadays there is no electrical standard for 2-wire analog port for VoIP. This field trial used standard for 2-wire analog port over digital transmission of 64 kbps system without any compression.

Electrical parameters of this standard can be divided into two categories. First ; parameters which depend on the line between telephone and exchange or PBX and second : parameters which depend on the hole system. Second category then can be divided into parameters which are critical to voice quality and parameters which are important to voice quality but not as critical as the one before.

Objective of this research is to analyze the measurement results (of all parameters stated before) of VoIP system using compression technique on the field trial and compare them with electrical standard for 2-wire analog port over digital transmission system (without any compression). Then give some suggestion to develop an electrical VoIP standard.
