QUANTITATIVE RISK ASSESSMENT ANALYSIS OF NATURAL GAS PIPELINE IN AN URBAN AREA

Natural gas pipeline which operates in an urban area has a high risk on its operation. Therefore, it is important to assess the risk level of the natural gas pipeline. This study analyzed the risk level of nine pipeline zones in the case study with Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) method. Risk val...

Dddddddd:ALARP INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/50135 Natural gas pipeline which operates in an urban area has a high risk on its operation. Therefore, it is important to assess the risk level of the natural gas pipeline. This study analyzed the risk level of nine pipeline zones in the case study with Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) method. Risk value is interpreted by individual risk and societal risk which can be obtained by calculating probability of failure and consequence of failure. The writer developed a calculation sheet with Microsoft Excel software to calculate these values. Probability of failure is calculated based on BS PD 8010-3:2009+A1:2013 code, while the consequence of failure is calculated based on Jo and Ahn (2005) research. Based on the QRA analysis result, all the pipeline zones in the case study have fulfilled the individual risk level based on the criteria that this research used. While the societal risk level of all the pipeline zones still in “Tolerable if ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable)” level with the high population level in urban area. Therefore, ALARP demonstration is required to be implemented to ensure the pipeline safe operation. Mitigation measures to reduce the risk level is proposed in this research. The first mitigation measure can reduce the risk value until 90.75%, while the second mitigation measure can reduce the risk value until 93.8%. ALARP demonstration plan to ensure the safe operation is also proposed in this study. The design of the pipeline where located in highway crossing areas is evaluated in this study with API RP 1102 code. This study found that the pipeline’s design has fulfilled the criteria of this code. text
