THE EFFECT OF POST-IOD (INDIAN OCEAN DIPOLE) ON RAIN ON THE MARITIME CONTINENT

Various kinds of climate variability events often affect rainfall in several regions of Indonesia. One of the global climate variability that affects Indonesia is the IOD (Indian Ocean Dipole). The IOD phenomenon is a phenomenon that occurs due to differences in sea surface temperature anomalies in...

One of the global climate variability that affects Indonesia is the IOD (Indian Ocean Dipole). The IOD phenomenon is a phenomenon that occurs due to differences in sea surface temperature anomalies in the western and eastern parts of the Indian Ocean (Saji et al. 1999). Many researchers study this phenomenon simultaneously, namely during the occurrence of IOD and not many have studied the effect of Post-IOD, especially in the Maritime Continent, even though there are indications that post-IOD affects the increase / decrease in rainfall intensity. This study analyzed the effect of Post-IOD (Indian Ocean Dipole) on rainfall in the Maritime Continent in the period 1979-2020. The analysis was carried out by Leading / Lagging Correlation using the Pearson correlation method to measure the strength and direction of the linear relationship of two variables, namely Dipole Mode and rainfall, and to perform a composite analysis to determine the physical process of the Post-IOD effect on rainfall in the Maritime Continent. The results of the composite analysis of SST (Sea Surface Temperature), wind 850mb (components u nd v), and relative humidity of 850mb show that post-IOD positive / negative anomalies around the western part of Indonesia increase / decrease in the month of MAM, this is by the analysis The lead / lag correlation that at Lag 5,6,7 (March + 1, April + 1, May + 1) shows a significant correlation of 99%. text
