Summary: | Along with the rapid growth of skyscrapers in Jakarta, energy consumption especially on air conditioning sector will also increase. Therefore, the government issued the DKI Jakarta Governor Regulation No. 38 of 2012 on green building. Under these rules, the Overall Thermal Transfer Value (OTTV) of a building must be less than 45 W/m2 in order to reduce the cooling load.
The implementation of this research consisted of calculation of OTTV of building X, modification of the building envelope to meet the criteria of a green building, cooling load estimation, air conditioning systems design, as well as calculation of energy consumption intensity (IKE) and life cycle cost (LCC) for each envelope modification alternatives and air conditioning system.
Envelope modification with three alternatives was done by adding insulation panel on the glass and replacing single glazing glass with double glazing glass. The initial OTTV value of 89,16 W/m2 decreased to 23,46 W/m2. The initial cooling load of 1635,81 TR decreased to 1020,19 TR. Redesigning the air conditioning system replaced the existing AC system using a chiller system. But alternatives using the existing AC system were also made to compare the IKE and LCC values. From the analysis result, envelope modification alternative 3 (double glazing glass and 2,1 m insulation) with chiller system was the alternative that has the lowest IKE (47,49 kWh/m2/year). However, envelope modification alternative 1 (2,1 m insulation) with existing AC system was the alternative that has the lowest LCC (Rp76.444.445.624,24). The best recommended alternative was alternative 1 existing AC.
