Description
Summary:This study aims to determine the effect of the vetiver root pre – treatment on the yield, distillation rate, forecasted distillation duration and choose the best treatment to improve the extracted oil. Distillation has been done by water and steam distillation method for 9 hours. The observed parameters are the water content of the raw materials, the vetiver oil yield, distillation rate, forecasted duration of the distillation, and the obtained vetiver oil per time unit. The data analysis method uses the classic assumption test of autocorrelation a.ka. Durbin – Watson analysis. The feasibility test of polynomial regression modelled with the F test, and ANOVA variance test. The result showed that the combination of washing and chopping pre–treatment significantly results in increasing the extracted oil compared to another pre-treatments by producing the highest yield of 0.36% (wet-based) and 0.47% (dry based); the highest extraction rate of 0.057%/hour; and the fastest forecasted duration of the distillation of 630 minutes (10.5 hours). Accordingly, the combination of washing and chopping pre–treatment is chosen to be the best solution to increase the amount of extracted oil.
