Description
Summary:Karimunjawa islands are one of a conservation area that is home to numbers of Indonesian exotic flora and fauna. Because of this appeal, the islands Karimunjawa has become one of the maritime tourism destinations in northern part of Java Island with increasing number of visitors every year. However, the condition of air transport facilities in Karimunjawa currently unable to meet the capacity of the users also had some infrastructure inadequacies. The project is located in Desa Kemujan, Kepulauan Karimunjawa, Jepara, Central Java. The major issues raised in the design of this airport is conservation and tourism. The strategy used to answer the issue of conservation is to maximize natural ventilation, the use of natural light, local vegetation, and sustainable material, namely glulam (glue-laminated timber). The airport design consists of three main masses with a link between them to enabled circulation for the manager. The building, with a total area of approximately 3,500m2, is shaded by a corrugated roof. This is to reflect the hills and waves that are dominating the landscape of the Karimunjawa Islands. The roof is supported using a glulam structure with branched columns to provide a spatial atmosphere as if we’re under the shade of a tree. The tree analogy was chosen because the name Dewadaru is a type of tree that are considered sacred by the local inhabitants. This terminal is expected to be a gateway that introduces the Karimunjawa Islands to tourists who come and leave a memorable experience for tourists returning to their place of origin.
