SIMULATION OF OROGRAPHIC RAIN FORMATION DUE TO WIND SPEED VARIATION USING CLOUD MODEL 1 (CM1)

Orographic rain is rain that results from a complex combination of atmospheres. The lack of observational data and limited resolution of predictions has not been able to support the orographic analysis and understanding of rainfall formation. So one way to solve this problem is to do a simulation...

The lack of observational data and limited resolution of predictions has not been able to support the orographic analysis and understanding of rainfall formation. So one way to solve this problem is to do a simulation. In this study, the orographic rain formation simulation is focused on the effect of initial variations in wind speed. The simulation domain is the result of idealization based on the average Digital Elevation Model in the area around Mount Rakutak, Bandung Regency. Information on atmospheric conditions in the model uses the average radiosonde data in Bandung. While variations in wind speed were selected based on meridional wind data processing from the ITB-Durham University Automatic Weather Station in Majalaya sub-district. From the simulation results that have been carried out, even though the rainfall is concentrated on the windward side and in the condition Fr < 1, changes in wind speed can still provide changes in the distribution and intensity of rain. The percentage change in distribution has a larger range than rain intensity, which can be more than 50%. As for the rain intensity, the percentage change in the range is less than 10%. text
