Description
Summary:Increasing cases of antibiotic resistance lead to fewer antibiotic option. The mortality rate become higher and the treatment is more expensive due to the replacement to the more potent antibiotics. The emergence of resistant bacteria should be controlled by new antibacterial agents. New potential drug could be discovered from natural sources such as plants. This review provides antibacterial effect of plants against resistant bacteria. There were so many research articles explain antibacterial activity of plant extracts, isolates, and its combination with antibiotics in the last five years. Some secondary metabolites that has antibacterial activity are flavonoids, monoterpenes, and catechins. Based on this literature review, plants were a potential source to become a new antibacterial agents or as antibiotics adjuvant to overcome antibiotic resistance issue.
