SILICA AND GLASS IONOMER BASED SELF-HEALING DENTAL COMPOSITES
The prevalence of caries or cavities in Indonesian society was at 72.6%. One of a few methods to overcome this problem is to use a restorative material in the form of composite resin. However, the use of composite resins still has two main problems which are fracture and secondary caries. The additi...

However, the use of composite resins still has two main problems which are fracture and secondary caries. The addition of self-healing and antibacterial materials is done by encapsulating the self-healing and antibacterial agents with microcapsules to maintain the properties of the self-healing agent and antibacterial agent. Silica was synthesized and characterized. CTAB and SPAN 80 were used as the templates. Glass ionomer consisting of polyacrylic acid and fluoroaluminosilicate is used as a self-healing agent. A literature review was conducted to determine the feasibility of making composite resins with the addition of self-healing and antibacterial agents. In this research and study, the results show that the synthesis of silica using CTAB and SPAN 80 templates was successfully carried out and the encapsulation of healing liquid into SPAN 80 @ silica was also done successfully. It is recommended that dental material composites use TEGDMA and DHEPT as self-healing agents which are encapsulated by using PUF microcapsules and zinc (Zn) as anti-bacterial agents encapsulated with CTAB templates. The recommendations for composite resins consist of Bis-GMA, TEGDMA, CQ, and 4-EDMAB materials. text |
