Liquorice root (Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fischer) has been used to maintain body health and has the potential as an immunomodulator. Zinc has an important role in the immune system and zinc supplementation has been shown to improve the immune system. This study aimed to examine the immunomodulatory effects of liquorice root extract and its combination with zinc sulphate. The immunomodulatory effect was tested in vivo on Swiss Webster mice with two doses of liquorice extract (100 and 200 mg/kg body weight) and one dose of zinc sulfate (0.148 mg / kg body weight). The immunomodulatory effect is determined by means of carbon clearance and organ index tests. The results showed that ethanol extract of liquorice at a dose of 100 mg / kg bw (phagocytic index = 1.244) and a dose of 200 mg/ kg bw (phagocytic index = 1.171) were immunostimulating. The combination of the two doses of liquorice ethanol extract and zinc sulphate is immunosuppressive with a phagocytic index <1. On the organ index, a striking thing was seen in the combination of licorice and zinc sulphate in which the liver index of this combination group was lower than the liver index without the combination. The results of the literature review on immunomodulators in combination with minerals are still small, therefore it needs to be developed considering that one of the minerals such as zinc used in this study has many benefits and plays an important role in the immune system, both in the innate immune system and the acquired immune system. text
